What to See in Passeiertal Valley and South Tyrol
Historical and other sights
Numerous old farms, as well as historic castles and churches in South Tyrol – whose historic walls have witnessed the unfolding of events throughout the ages, still remain standing and are open to visitors. Among them are some of the oldest Romanesque churches in Europe, such as the Proculus in Naturns. Other attractions, such as the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, are among the most frequented.
Museums including the unique Ötzi Museum in Bozen recount human life in prehistoric times.
There are day-trips and excursions to stunningly beautiful natural sites and the cool, limpid waters of the Kaltern and the Montiggl lakes offer welcome respite from the summer heat.
Complete with jugglers and acrobats, the Asfaltart Street-Art festival is an event highlight of the Meran cultural calendar, and the spa town also hosts other significant festivals such as the Merano Music Festival and Merano WineFestival.
